DIG sent to jail for contempt

GILGIT, March 4: The administrative judge of the Anti-Terrorist Court Gilgit has sentenced Deputy Inspector General Police of Northern Areas Mohammad Hanif, to three months imprisonment and fined him Rs10,000.

According to court officials, the court issued orders after the team investigating into the murder case of Director Agriculture Abdul Wahid could not submit the challan within seven days. The team headed by DIG Mohammad Hanif could not comply with the orders of court despite repeated notices.

As a result the court issued show cause notice and announced this decision. After the judge passed the orders police arrested him and took him to Police Rest House Gilgit. Dawn

  1. Finally the court has flexed its muscles!! The image of courts being impotent and too afraid to take on the administration officials will be drastically changed.
    May be the those sitting in the Appelate court will take a cue from the decions of ATA Court’s judge and deliver verdicts not to save their skins but to deliver justice.
