Consultations in progress for construction of “New Skardu” City

Skardu, December 18: Executive Engineer of the People’s Work Department, Eng. Amir Hussain, has told the media that consulting firms are being approached for submission of plans for development of a “New Skardu” city, close the existing town.

Amir further said that a 114 ft long bridge will also be constructed over the Indus River as part of this plan.

He further informed that up to Six million rupees have been sanctioned for starting the consultancy work. The plans are likely to be submitted by June next year and construction work is planned to start during the next fiscal year, 2012-2013.

Eng. Amir further said that this project will be completed within a period of two years. He further said that Karakorum International University will be constructed in the new town while Allama Iqbal Open University is also considering to establish its building in the new city.
