Gilgit, March 29: Doctors and paramedical staff across Gilgit – Baltistan are on strike. They plan to march on the CM house tomorrow, to press the government in favor of their demands.

Thousands of patients across Gilgit – Baltistan were without medical attention for the third day as doctors and paramedical staff continued a strike called by the GB chapter of the Pakistan Medical Association.

Demands of the doctors and paramedical staff includes increase in salaries, and implementation of promises, like DPC, made by the GB government and premier Gilani. The doctors in GB are underpaid as compared to other parts of the country. The underpayment is considered to be a major factor behind dearth of good doctors in the region.

Hundreds of doctors who have studied on quoats of GB are working outside the region because the incentives are low and the region lacks general amenities of life.
