Some newspapers publishing “baseless” stories, peace is need of the entire region, say elders of Diamer and Astore

Islamabad, April 10: Elders of Diamer and Astore have demanded a judiacial inquiry into the Chilas tragedy. According to details a delegation of Astori elders under the leadership of Qari Gulzar visited Diamer and met members of Diamer Jirga. During the meeting both sides were of the view that peace was need of the whole region and for maintaining law and order they would cooperate with government.

Elders said that Inspector General of Police Gilgit Baltistan and District head of police Diamer were not impartial and the people of both districts had no trust in them therefore a judicial commission should be constituted for transparant prob into the Chilas massacre.

Criticising the role of local media they said “some newspapers are busy in spreading sectarian hatred by publishing baseless stories”

During the meeting it was also decided that a joint Jirga of both districts would be set up to protect the rights of people.Elders also expressed their sorrow and grief over the killings of innocent people during the recent wave of violence and prayed that may Allah Almighty rest the departed souls in the eternal peace and grant courage and strength to the bereaved families to bear the loss with fortitude.

  1. It is truly appreciable that elders of Diamar and Astor held talks for the peace rehabilitation in GB. Also, it is really worth mentioning that our local media is still not mature; instead of working for peace and harmony in this hour of need, it might ignite hatred.
