Diamer dam to fulfill country’s energy problem

ISLAMABAD – The upcoming construction of Diamir-Bhasha dam is expected to meet the needs of all the four provinces of the country.
An official to the Ministry of Water and Power said the Diamir-Bhasha dam will provide enough water for the agricultural needs of all four provinces plus it will accommodate the flood water in monsoon. He said that the construction of 12 small dams is under process while the remaining 20 dams will be constructed at a later stage. He reported that six small dams will be constructed in Nowshera, Charsadda, Kohat, Karak and Haripur in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa which will enable farmers to cultivate more land in the province. He also gave a report on the construction of dams in Balochistan and Punjab. He said in Balochistan five large and medium size dams will be constructed.
Similarly, eight small dams will be constructed in Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Attock and Chakwal and other districts of Punjab. He said that the construction of these dams will make a greener Pakistan with enough resources of water.
