Ghizer: 22 year old girl shot dead by her uncle

Gilgit, February 3: A 22-year old unmarried girl has been killed by her uncle in the name of honour in Bubur village of Punial, Ghizer district.

According to details a girl, DB, was shot dead by her uncle, identified as Dinar, with the help of a 30 bore gun. The girl, reportedly, had decided to marry the man of her choice. This was not acceptable to the uncle.

She was laid to rest in her village after medico-legal procedures. The killer has reportedly handed himself over to the police, who have registered a case of murder.

Cases of violence against women are on the rise in the Gilgit-Baltistan region. Many women commit suicide while many are killed by their relatives for one or the other reason.
