Rondu: Protesters demand opening of roads, formation of new districts in Baltistan

Rondu, December 10 (PR): A large number of people came out today on the roads in Dambudaas village of Rondu sub-division, Skardu, demanding opening of the Skardu-Kargil road and forming Shigar and Kharman District in the Baltistan division.

The protesters were chanting slogans in favor of the Skardu-Kargil Road and Shigar and Kharmang districts. They criticized the political leaders of Gilgit-Baltistan for making bogus promises and telling lies about formation of two new districts.

The protesters also condemned violation of human rights in Gilgit-Baltistan, demanding autonomy of conducting cross-border trade. They said that throughout Pakistan cross-border trade is being practiced but the same has been stopped in Gilgit-Baltistan. They demanding opening of trade links with Tajikistan through Ishkoman.

They also demanded Azad-Kashmir-like semi-autonomous status for Gilgit-Baltistan, urging the Federal government to roll back the current presidential order.

The protesters were addressed by nationalist leaders, Manzoor Parwana and Syed Haider Shah Rizvi. Other speakers included MWM’s Maulana Hashim, MQM’s Wazir Muzahir, Liaqat of APML, Najaf Boto, Syed Ahmad Shah and others. A resolution was passed during the protest.
