1500 strong force to protect Karakoram Highway, says Barjees Tahir
Islamabad, February 07: Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), Ch. Muhammad Barjees Tahir Thursday said a strong force of 1500 personnel is being constituted to ensure protection of Karakoram Highway.
He said paper work has already been completed while recruitment will be conducted on merit.
He was talking to a delegation of Ulema, who called on him here under the leadership of Senator Prof. Sajid Mir to discuss law and order situation in GB region. The Minister said training to this force will be provided by Pakistan Army.
He said protection of human lives is the highest priority of government and added that serious steps are being taken to counter sectarianism in the GB.
Barjees Tahir said Ulema Board has been constituted to maintain law and order situation in GB adding that besides, the government has embarked upon several measures to counter corruption which are bearing fruits.
Senator Sajid Mir informed the Minister about the welfare projects being run by Jamaat-i-Ahal-i-Hadees in Gilgit-Baltistan and ensured his party’s full support in order to maintain law and order situation. Maulana Abdul Wahid showed his apprehensions regarding rumour of creation of new constituencies. He told the Minister that new constituencies should be created in such a fashion as to promote religious harmony.—APP
