Sost: The Pakistan-China border will open on 1st April 2014

Sost, March 29The Karakuram Highway will open for traffic between Pakistan and China through the Khunjerav National Park on 1st April, according to a Customs official.

The Sost border is being opened one month ahead of the traditional time.

The importance of the Karakuram Highway has increased exponentially in view of the decision of Pakistan and China to upgrade the Highway and use it as a trade and economic corridor.

Sost town is expected to play turn into a commercial hub due to establishment of the Economic Corridor.

A three-kilometre long stretch of the KKH had been destroyed by the Attabad Landslide disaster and the resultant blockage of the Hunza River. However, the work on a realignment project is in full swing in the vicinity of the Attabad spillway.
