Solidarity: Journalists rally for Hamid Mir in Gilgit
Gilgit, May 29: Journalists in the regional capital of Gilgit-Baltistan rallied in favor of the renowned anchor and columnist Hamid Mir, expressing solidarity with him.
The rally started from the Gilgit Press Club and ended in front of the Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly (GBLA), demanding justice for Hamid Mir, who was critically injured in an armed ambush in Karachi last month, sustaining several injuries and getting hospitalized for several weeks.
A national uproar against Hamid Mir and his employer, the Jung Group and GEO TV, had started after their channels blamed the chief of ISI for the attack.
Cases were registered against the media house and the PEMRA was asked to ban its transmissions for bringing a national institute to disrepute without credible evidence.
The rally in Gilgit was addressed by Khursheed Ahmad, Tariq Hussain Shah and others, representing the Gilgit Press Club and the Gilgit Union of Journalists. They demanded exemplary punishment for those who attacked Hamid Mir.
The rally had been organized on the call of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ).
