Gilgit-Baltistan not under the jurisdiction of Pakistan’s constitution, says Federal Information Minister
Islamabad: Federal Information Minister Pervez Rasheed has said that the jurisdiction of the constitution of Pakistan does not extend to Gilgit-Baltistan. “The jurisdiction of our constitution is not beyond Pakistan’s boundaries”, Rasheed said.
He was responding to a question asked by a journalist who said that since the people GB carry a Pakistani passport, why is the decree of a court in Gilgit-Baltistan not implementable in Pakistan. The reporter was referring to a recent verdict given by an Anti-Terrorism Court in Gilgit against Jang Group Owner and Chief Editor Mir Shakilur Rehman, actress Veena Mali, her husband Assad Malik and morning show host Shaista Lodhi.
Several legal and constitutional experts and analysts have termed the ATC verdict unimplementable. According to them, the court’s of the unconstitutional Gilgit-Baltistan region cannot decide cases related to the constitutional citizens of Pakistan.
Gilgat is Pakistan. Pakistan is the Homeland Gilgitians. Pervez Rasheed have no right to say such things.
