Polling in Hunza postponed
Gilgit, December 16: The Chief Election Commissioner postponed bye election in Hunza due to inclement weather condition. According to the notification, issued on Wednesday, the poll has been postponed on request of Chief Secretary, political parties and voters of the constituency. The notification mentions that the poll could not be conducted due to severe climatic obstacles almost in all the remote areas of the constituency and accessibility of the voters, polling staff, and polling materials could be affected. The aim for a fair, transparent and free poll cannot be achieved.
The Election Commission of Gilgit-Baltistan had announced the schedule for by-polls in GBLA-6, Hunza for January 28, 2016. About 31 candidates had submitted nomination papers on 15 December 2015.
The seat had fallen vacant following the appointment of Mir Ghazanfar Ali Khan as the new governor of Gilgit-Baltistan. According to the notification issued, the poll will be held on Jan 28, 2016.
