Islamabad, December 23: Alpine Club of Pakistan (ACP) is planning to hold two snow hiking competitions by the end of January, 2016 to provide an opportunity to people to take part in healthy activities.
“We are planning to hold two snow hiking events – one for the youth and the other for families by the end of next month,” Qarar Haidri, the spokesman for Alpine Club of Pakistan (APC) told APP on Tuesday.
He said that the contestants of these two events would be taken to the snow-laden hills of Donga Gali, Abbotabad in busesfrom Islamabad Sports Complex.
Trekkers from different parts of the country, including Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir would be welcomed to apply for thecontest, he said.
He said the family contests would be held in different categories, including under 10, under 14 and open category.
Haidri said last year over 500 trekkers from different parts of the country took part in the hiking contest held at pipeline trackof Donga Gali adding that the number of participants for the upcoming contests could be very big as a large number of people were taking keen interest in snow hiking. The winners will be awarded medals, while all the participants will be given way certificates for taking part in the event, he added.
Haidri said the Club was making all-out efforts to promote rock, ice and sports climbing, trekking and other adventure activities in the country.
He said that for the past few years the Club had been continuously organizing different events to attract people towards healthy activities.
“The response of people towards hiking is very encouraging. Hence, we have decided to hold several other events for them”, he added.—APP
