Hashoo Foundation, Gilgit Arts and Culture Council inaugurate First Traditional Music School

Gilgit: Hashoo Foundation, Centre for Culture and Development (CKU) –Project in collaboration with Gilgit Arts and Culture Council initiate a traditional music school in District Gilgit. This is one of the major component of the CKU Project. It is series of the project component those are going to be held in Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral by Hashoo Foundation in partnership with the Centre for Culture and Development (CKU), its endeavors to revive the indigenous culture to empower traditional musicians, local artisans, singers, poets, culinary arts and create social harmony.

Formal inauguration of traditional music school is scheduled and implemented on August 10, 2016 at 4.00 pm. The Regional Program Manager Hashoo Foundation along with the senior artists of Gilgit, other local stakeholders, trainer and trainees and distinguish guests have participated to inaugurate CKU Traditional Music School in Gilgit.

ROG team led by Regional Program Manager and members of implementing partner Gilgit Arts and Culture Council, senior artists also participate in the event.

The permanent sustainable traditional music school has been established and formal training in musical instruments, local musical instruments such as Doll, Dhamama, and Surnai (Shani) are currently being taught at the school.

The traditional music training will impart legendary artists Mr. Jan Ali (Ustad), Fida Ali and Jan Nisar, currently sixteen (16) trainees are registered for training in the local musical instruments.

Memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between Hashoo Foundation (HF), Gilgit Arts & Culture Council and Master Trainer (Music Training).

The efforts of Centre for Culture and Development (CKU), Hashoo Foundation, Gilgit Arts & Culture Council were well appreciated by people and Chief Guest, Mr. Abdul Khaliq Taj (Senior Artist). He told such remarkable efforts by CKU and Hashoo Foundation in culturally enriched regions like Gilgit would definitely help in cultural promotion and inter religious faith and harmony. He further praised the efforts of Hashoo Foundation in multiple sectors i.e. Education, Agriculture, Rural Development and Culture.

Mr. BJ Shams, Regional Program Manager Hashoo Foundation addressed the session and briefed the audience about the components of CKU- project. He paid thanks the honorable gusts in the event.

President Gilgit Arts and Culture Council, expressed his sincere gratitude to Denmark Embassy, CKU-Project, Hashoo foundation for their generous support in the establishment of the Traditional Music School in Gilgit.
