ISLAMABAD: Higher Education Commission (HEC) has approved the establishment of the sub campus of Karakoram International University in Ghizer district. In a notification directed to the acting vice chancellor of KIU Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmad, HEC has asked KIU to take necessary actions for the establishment of sub campus at Ghizer, strictly in accordance with the parameters and approved components of PC-1.
The notification mentions that HEC has considered the demand of the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan for inclusion of Ghizer campus under the approved umbrella project titled “Establishment of sub campuses of public sector universities at district level (Phase-1). The approved cost of the establishment of a sub-campus in the approved PC-1 is 78.253 million rupees.
It is here to mention that Governor Gilgit-Baltistan Mir Ghazanfar Ali Khan had directed Karakoram International University to take measures to start sub campus in Ghizer after establishment of Diamer and Hunza sub-campuses.
