SKARDU: Commander FCNA, Major General Ehsan Mehmood Khan, has said that the decision of opening Skardu-Kargil and other roads depends on India’s positive response.
He made the remarks while visiting Ghangani and other border villages of District Kharmang, close to the Line of Control.
The regional army commander also said that all public schools in the border region of “Chourbat Sector” will be run by Pakistan Army, from now on.
Opening of roads across the LOC has been a popular local demand, especially of residents of Kargil and other border villages who remain separated from their families for decades.
Pakistan Army’s commander for the “Northern Areas”, since renamed as Gilgit-Baltistan, further said that the forces are aware of presence of separated families.
“We know that there are Muslims living on the other side of the border. Therefore, we are very cautious while responding to shelling from the other side”, he added.
