550 personnel to be hired for proposed “Tourism Police Division” in Gilgit-Baltistan,
GILGIT: The Gilgit-Baltistan Police will establish a new “Division” especially for protection and safety of tourists. 550 recruits will be hired for the new police division. An Assistant Inspector General of Police will lead the new division.
This was stated by IG Sanaullah Abbasi during a meeting here on Wednesday, who instructed officials to prepare a PC-I and submit it to the federal government for approval.
The IGP said that the new division will have all the facilities and equipment needed for protection of foreign and domestic tourists.
While Gilgit-Blatistan is usually a peaceful region. However, in June 2013 a group of terrorists attacked foreign tourists and their Pakistani guide near the Nanga Parbat Base Camp, killing 11 people.
