NAB GB arrests ex-finance secretary on corruption charges


GILGIT: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Rawalpindi Sub-Office Gilgit has today arrested former Secretary Finance Gilgit-Baltistan Arif Ibrahim from Islamabad.

Ibrahim is currently working as Sr. Joint Secretary Interprovincial Coordination Committee Islamabad.

According to a statement issued by NAB Gilgit, Arif Ibrahim was arrested in pursuance of Non-Bailable Warrant of Arrest issued by Accountability Court Gilgit-Baltistan, Gilgit in Reference No. 05/2018.

NAB (R) Sub office Gilgit-Baltistan has filed a reference against ex-Secretary Finance GB Arif Ibrahim, ex-Secretary Excise and Taxation GB Muhammad Ali Yougvi, ex-ETO Ghizer Mir Intikhab ul Haq, Contractor Excise Department Muhammad Saleem and Sherbaz Ahmed on the
charges of corruption and corrupt practices in procurement of Arms and Ammunition for Excise and Taxation Department GB. The arms were procured at exorbitant rates and later found substandard that resulted in loss of Rs5 million to National exchequer.

According to the statement, NAB(R) Sub-Office Gilgit-Baltistan is fully committed and determined in following “Zero-Tolerance Policy” towards Corruption & Corrupt Practices as envisaged by Worthy Chairman NAB and DG NAB-Rawalpindi.
