Gilgit: ’48 hours deadline’ for release of ASWJ leader

Gilgit: Tanzeem Ahle Sunnat(TAS) on Friday held protest demonstrations in Gilgit, Chilas and Gahkuch against the arrest of its leader Maulana Atta Ullah Saqib, and other workers. The protesters gave a 28-hours ultimatum to the government for release of all the detainees.

Addressing a mammoth gathering in Gilgit, ASWJ Chief Qazi Nisar said that the Ahl-e-Sunnat wanted peace in GB. He said that some forces always try to destabilize the region.

“For the sake of peace we have tolerated injustice and despite tyrant behavior of authorities we remained calm and adopted the way of patience but now government has crossed all limits and our innocent leaders and workers have been arrested in baseless cases”, he added.

He said that Ahle Sunnat cannot bear more discrimination and if innocent workers and Maulana Atta Ullah Saqib were not released within the dead line TAS would announce its future strategy with the consultation of ulema of Chila Ghizer and Kohistan.

He also demanded that a new census should be carried out in GB under the supervision of Pakistan Army and new constituencies should be demarcated in the region.
