Subsidy to oil tankers in NAs
Gilgit, Oct 30: The Northern Areas administration on Wednesday decided to revise the procedure of payment to tanker owners who transport oil from other parts of the country to the Northern Areas, a spokesman of the local administration said.
He said the move was aimed at doing away with the chances of misappropriation of the facility by the tanker companies He said the decision was taken at a meeting presided over by the Home Secretary Mohammad Usman Younis and attended by all Deputy Commissioners of the region.
The home secretary directed the DCs to maintain proper record of the tankers entering the region.
The spokesman disclosed that Rs86,000 per tanker are paid by the government to every company and the meeting felt that there should be a check and transparency in the payment procedure. He said the meeting was of the view that from now onward no subsidy should be paid to the company unless the deputy commissioner of the district concerned verified the bill.
The meeting decided to send recommendations to the Chief Secretary that vouchers are to be signed by the deputy commissioner.
The meeting also decided to set up new depots in Skardu and Hunza district. Courtesy Dawn
