Benazir income support programme to be extended to Northern Areas: PM

ISLAMABAD, Nov 18: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Tuesday said that Benazir Income Support Programme would be extended to the Northern Areas.The Prime Minister was talking to a delegation of Northern Areas Legislators and Advisors headed by Chief Executive Northern Areas, Mir Ghazanfar Ali Khan and Rani of Hunza, Ms. Ghazanfar Ali Khan, that called on him here at the PM House this afternoon.
The Chief Executive Northern Areas briefed the Prime Minster about the Northern Areas in detail.

He said there is exemplary peace in the Northern Areas due to which the World Bank team has selected it for its project for the development of tourism industry in the region.

The Chief Executive said that Northern Areas should be given a constitutional status.

The Prime Minster constituted the Cabinet Committee comprising Minister for Law and Minister for Kashmir and Northern Areas to look into the status of Northern Areas.

Talking about the empowerment to the people’s representatives, the Chief Executive said that the Northern Areas Assembly should be given more powers enabling it to deliver more towards solving people’s problems.

He said that the already announced and notified new administrative districts of Hunza, Nagar and sub‑ districts of Rondu and Daghuni should be actualized.

While discussing the status of Basha Diamer Dam, the Chief Executive said that it should be renamed as Diamer Dam in order to resolve the issue of royalty between the Northern Areas and NWFP.

The Chief Executive requested the Prime Minister for the materialization of the special package announced by the previous government to provide interest free loans upto Rs. 50,000 to the people of Northern Areas.

He further requested the Prime Minister to lift ban on government jobs in addition to agri‑loans and other loans on easy terms for the people of Northern Areas to generate more economic activity. (APP)

    The people of FATA are also happy on the programme (BISP) announced by the Prime Minister of Pakistan. The requests from the poor and naddy tribesmen are also being received in this office for financial assistance.
    Kindly confirm that this programme is also applicable to FATA or otherwise.

    I m citizan of northern areas of pakistan n i m very happy and thankfull to Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Tuesday said that Benazir Income Support Programme would be extended to the Northern Areas. respected sir i know lot of people who are really eligible for this financial assistance so the request is that sir how they can get benfit from this wonderfull project what is the procedure for geting this assistance, and what are the reqirments and which documents needs from where they can get more information

  4. WHY WE MAKE POLICY ON THE NAME OF POOR PEOPLE TO ACHIEVE POLITICAL RESULTS

    Why the forms have been given to MNAs and Senators only, where there are only people who have approach to MNA and Senators will be entitled for such benefit or where the MNA & Senators want to increase their vote Bank will give one or two forms on a family attached to their political parties will be benefitted.

    This quite discriminative decision and until our political leaders do not decide in 100% benefit of poors to reduce poverty with justice the community will not improve and the situation will further aggravated if poor people do not have the right to get benefit at their door step.
