Pak – China Friendship Language Center inaugurated in Gilgit

Gilgit, May 20, 2014: Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, Syed Mehdi Shah inaugurated the newly established building of the Pakistan-China friendship Language Center in the regional capital. The Center is a joint initiative of the Gilgit-Baltistan Education Department and the Overseas Chinese Association, Gilgit-Baltistan.
Speaking at the occasion, the CM said that a similar center will also be inaugurated in Skardu. He said that the center will help further strengthen the relationships between Pakistan and China by helping the youth to learn Chinese language. He also thanked the Overseas Chinese Association for making the establishment of the center possible.
It is pertinent to note that two years ago Chinese had been made an optional subject at schools in Gilgit-Baltistan.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Deputy Speaker GBLA Jamil Ahmad, Education Minister Ali Madad Sher and other notables in large numbers. Books were also distributed among the students. The center has been established at the Government Boys High School No.1, located in Garhi Bagh, Gilgit.
