Hunza youth warn of blocking KKH
HUNZA-NAGAR, April 9: The leaders of Progressive Youth Front Hunza on Thursday have threatened to block Karakoram Highway.
They were demanding end to flour crisis and payment of compensation to the persons affected by the KKH expansion.
They were addressing at a hunger strike camp staged at College Chowk in Aliabad, Hunza.
The strike was called by Progressive Youth Front (PYF) Hunza and participated by a large number of political activists, notables and union councilors from all over Hunza.
The speakers condemned the non-implementation of the chief secretary’s directives for increase in wheat quota for Hunza. They termed six-kg flour per person on monthly basis as an inhuman act.
They demanded probe against the former director of civil supply corporation for large scale irregularities in wheat supply. They said that the mill owners and dealers have crated huge wealth through black marketing the Rs500 subsidized wheat bag on Rs1300.
They condemned the officials of National Highway and Northern Areas Administration for not paying their role in providing compensation to those affected by KKH expansion project. They said that the contractors have started the expansion works without any clearance regarding the compensation.
The speakers also demanded an additional seat for Hunza in the Northern Areas Legislative Assembly before declaring Hunza-Nagar as a district. The speakers bitterly criticised the Chief Executive of Northern Areas, Ghazanfar Ali Khan for ignoring the interests and demands of the people of his constituency.
The strike ended after the assurance of Amir Khan, the acting Assistant Commissioner Hunza to the representatives of PYF and the Association of All Hunza Union Council to hold a meeting with the high officials of civil supply corporation on Saturday in order to resolve the issue of wheat shortage.
The AC Hunza said that he had discussed the compensation issue with the NHA. He also called a meeting of the union councilors and flour mill owners to devise strategies to end black marketing of subsidized flour. Source

Good initiative but there is no need to block KKH ro disturb people
Excellent initiative, if it will continue peacefully and local community couldn’t disturb.
The enthusiastic step of strike for the basic right who ever initiate should be encouraged for the betterment of people of Hunza. These are the real on ground issues that need prompt respond and we should encourage these types of extreme action to block KKH to highlight our issues
I agree with the protest, but it should be peaceful. No damages to public properties. All public properties belongs to the protesters themseleves in the way or the other…
