Development Exposure Trips

At least three different groups of social activists, community leaders and NGO workers are scheduled to vist Nagar – Hunza – Gojal, on development exposure trips, during the next ten days, according to reports.

The first team comprises of fifty people from Azad Kashmir. The team is being led by Fazal Amin Baig (Gulmit). The trip is sponsored by “Grassroots Development Foundation, a Denmark based NGO.

The second team comprises of community leaders and social activists from the Wakhan Corridor. This team is led by Inayat Ali (Shimshal). Majority of the team members are Wakhi speaking peple. This trip has been Wildlife Conservation Society, a US based NGO.

The third team is led by Mehboob Aziz (Gulmit) and comprises of Wakhani social activists and community leaders. Their tour is sponsored by a tourism concern of AKDN, working in the Wakhan corridor.

During the trip these visitors are scheduled to visit projects of Naunihal Foundation, in Nagar Valley, Baltit Fort, Altit Village, KADO projects, Ganish Village, Al Amin Model School Gulmit, Ghulkin Village Organization & Village Women Organization, Khyber Valley, Khunjerab Valley Organization (KVO), Silk Route Dry Port, Passu (VO projects) and Chipursan. The teams are also scheduled to visit Khunjerab Valley. The purpose of these visits to share knowledge about sociail development and, hopefully, inspire the visitors to take similar actions in their own communities.

Wakhi Tajik Cultural Association (WTCA) is going to arrange a musical night for the teams coming from Wakhan in Gulmit, on the 27th of November.

This is the first time that a group of peopel from Ookh (Wakhan) would visit their ethnic brethern in this part of the world.

    Program Description

    The Community College Initiative Program will support international undergraduate students at accredited U.S. community colleges. It will provide quality educational programs, professional development, employment skills and a first-hand understanding of American society to international students. Programs are being offered in the following fields:

    · Applied Engineering

    · Business Management and Administration

    · Media

    · Tourism and Hospitality Management

    People who are employed in the relevant field are strongly encouraged to apply. The award covers funding for one year of academic study. Students are expected to return home immediately following the completion of their U.S. program.

    Grant Benefits:

    Program funding will cover round-trip travel, book allowance, tuition, housing and a health benefit plan.

    Eligibility:

    • Pakistani citizen

    • Currently employed in one of the fields listed above

    • 14-15 years of education (2 year Bachelors)

    • English language proficiency; and

    • Potential to have a positive impact on Pakistan’s future development and demonstrated leadership

    No dependents are allowed for any part of this program.

    Individuals with a Masters or other advanced degree are ineligible. For all USEFP programs, person’s with a dual U.S./Pakistan nationality or who have a parent, spouse, fiancé or child over 18 years of age who is a U.S. citizen or permanent resident are ineligible. Employees of the Fulbright organization or the U.S. Department of State are ineligible.
