Traders temporarily called off strike after government assurance

GILGIT: Markazi Anjuman-e- Tajran has temporarily called off its GB wide shutter down and wheel jam strike after the government assured withdrawal of taxes in the upcoming meeting of Gilgit Baltistan Council in Skardu. Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi was scheduled to visit Skardu on 25th October to chair the ninth meeting of Gilgit Baltistan Council.

Addressing a press conference in Gilgit Minister for Information Iqbal Hassan, Parliamentary Secretary Orangzaib Khan Advocate, Haji Abid Ali Baig, and Farooq Mir announced the strike called off in presence of the leadership of Markazi Anjuman-e- Tajran.

Ministers said that the reservations of the traders on tax were one of the top agenda of the GB Council meeting, to be chaired by PM Pakistan.

The leadership of traders union has said that their next course of action will be decided on the evening of October 25th as the government has assured to settle this issue during the GB council meeting.

The decision to hold back the strike was taken by Markazi Anjuman-e- Tajran after long negotiations with the minister of PML (N) government in GB. The Anjuman-e- Tajran had also organized an all parties conference in which all the major political parties and trades unions had also supported the strike call.
