by: Zulfiqar Ali Khan

HUNZA-NAGAR, Nov 7: The Northern Areas administration is committed to taking necessary steps for women’s empowerment through skill development, an official of the Planning and Development (P&D) department said.

The P&D Department’s secretary, Abdul Sattar, said the government had initiated many projects in this regard.

He was addressing the closing ceremony of a two-month training course on “Advance fashion designing” held under the department’s ‘Doorstep Project’ in Aliabad.

The training session was organised in collaboration with the Aga Khan Economic Planning Board (AKEPB) for Hunza.

About 30 women attended the course facilitated by a professional trainer.

AKEPB Chairman Fida Karim asked the government to establish a production unit in Hunza-Nagar so that the trained women could have employment opportunities and transfer their skills to other deserving women. He said needbased training sessions could ensure proper utilisation of the resources.

The secretary assured the gathering to extend all-out assistance in marketing the products and establishment of production units. During the ceremony, he also distributed certificates among participants of the training course. Also in DAWN
