NALA to elect deputy speaker on May 20

GILGIT, May 19 (APP): The Election for Deputy Speaker office, Northern Areas Legislative Assembly (NALA) would be held on May 20 (Wednesday). According to the secretariat officials, the nomination papers of three candidates, Wazir Walayat Ali from Skardu, Aftab Haider Advocate from Gilgit and Dr. Muzaffar Raley from Astor were okayed and they would contest for the office.

Aftab Haider belongs to Pakistan People’s Party while the other two candidates are from Pakistan Muslim League (Q).

The Secretary NALA, Haji Qowat Jan has been declared Returning Officer to hold elections.

When contacted, he said that there would be no show of hands rather, the members would poll vote in favor of their favorite candidate.

It is pertinent to note here that Deputy Speaker NALA Syed Asad Zaidi was gunned down on April 20 and this position fell vacant after his demise.
