“Package a positive step forward”, Ghazanfar Ali Khan, Chief Executive

By Noor

Karachi, August 29: “We had been struggling to highlight the issues of Gilgit – Baltistan at different levels and this [package] seems to be a positive step forward. The complete details of the ordinance are not known, yet, but we are hoping that most of the demands of the people of Gilgit – Baltistan would be met”, said Ghazanfar Ali Khan, chief executive of Gilgit – Baltistan, GAKtalking to this scribe on phone. He congratulated all the people of Gilgit – Baltistan on their peaceful struggle for obtaining political rights, in a democratic manner.

He also admitted that due to increased awareness level of the masses of Gilgit – Baltistan, expectations have soared and there would be many questions raised about different points related to the ordinance.

Replying to a question Ghazanfar said that it is important to ensue that all member of the GB Council are residents of Gilgit – Baltistan. However, he said that the governor is the authority to appoint seven out of the fifteen members of Gilgit – Baltistan Council, while other six members of the council will be selected from the Gilgit – Baltistan Legislative Assembly.

No decision has been taken yet about the increment of number of seats for Hunza, Ghazanfar said, replying to a question. But he said that the efforts were on and a final decision in this regard can be expected any time soon.

  1. This is a complete eye wash. The fundamental human rights of representation in the parliament and Senate have never been addressed to and the area still does not have any existence in the constitution of Pakistan. In this case we can not fight for our rights as citizen of Pakistan in the constitutional matters like royalty issues in the case of Diamer Bhasha Dam if constructed.

The Federal Government seems to have no trust in the people of this unfortunate region of Gilgit and Baltistan while the people have always shown their trust by voluntary accession to Pakistan in 1948, always sacrificed for the security and integrity of Pakistan in every war and continued faithfulness is shown for the last 62 even at the cost of the fundamental human rights.

Our politicians most of them former contractors and illiterates, have always been obedient servants to the bureaucracy, had no courage to stand against the dictates of their masters. Now the majority of our youth are educated and spread all over the world and can understand their rights and can raise voice when and where necessary.

I am sure these old tactics won’t work now and the Government must come up with something substantial which is acceptable to the masses of the area. No package is acceptable to the people which does not give us our fundamental human right of representation at par with the other citizen of this country.

  3. That is not more than a lolypop!! Rights are not granted by someone. We need to snatch them from the hands of tyrants and opressors!! All these NALA members are incapable of snatching them for their people. We have been electing inefficient and noncommitted memebers who did not know how to face the machinations of the civil and military bureaucracy. They always ask for more mone than rights and status. If they were really serious in securing our rights and status, they could have done it by passing a simple resolution in their elected house as at the time of partition the assemblies of Sindh, NWFP and other areas did. The decision passed by NALA would be the final call, whether u ask more provincial status or an independent set up!!

  4. now it is clear that who is responsible, democratic govt should not act like this .why should not blam mir fpr every thing.

  5. The genuine voice and concern of Nazir Sabir represents the true feelings of Hunza Valley at large. Although the people of Hunza rejoice the tiny bit of the much awaited political rights and more than that the relief for revival of the historical identity of the region as Gilgit and Baltistan with our brethren across the northern belt.

It is a pity we the people of Hunza have a very weak memory. Even the ignorant voters of Ghazani know but ashamed to admit the criminal negligence he committed two decades ago when he was the representative while favoring his maternal relationships and pleasing his masters. We will never forget he was the one who deprived the Hunzukutz by refusing to go along with the proposal of the then government to form a new constituency including lower part of Hunza and Nagar to fulfill his evil selfish motives.

Later again at a very large gathering organized by Mr. Nazir Sabir at the opening of the FG College ground Aliabad when Federal Minister Majeed Malik was about to announce the rightful constituency for Hunza on the demand of Mr. Nazir Sabir in his welcome address. Over 6000 people are a witness it was Ghazanfar who whispered into the ears of the minister just before his speech sitting next requesting him not to announce it or it would go to a PPP credit! He succeeded while we people of Hunza remain neglected and yet again we mourn these two tragedies and cruel legacies of the Ghazani era with the Hunza valley.

Besides don’t we all know how many times the former dictator Musharraff visited Hunza to have a toast of a glass of fresh Hunza wine with the self made rani Attiqa from Ichhra!! Except for few stooges like the self declared communist Aman ullah Khan and others the people of Hunza wouldn’t know what all was presented to the VIP visitors at her harem. One would ask what stopped them from asking him to allocate this rightful constituency for Hunza from him instead for begging for writing off their illegal hefty loans and liquor permits.

Therefore all those slaves who have been supporting for Ghazani are equally responsible for this injustice to the people of Hunza. Don’t you still feel ashamed for who you so often vote!!
