Temporary blockade of Attabad Spillway is being opened today

Hunza, February 26: A temporary blockade on the spillway of dammed Hunza River is being removed today through blasting.

Opening of the spillway is likely to release around 50,000 Cusecs water.

Villagers in the downstream areas have been instructed to stay away from the river banks, to avoid any threat that may be posed by sudden increase in the amount of water flow.

Government and NGOs have been alerted to cope with any eventuality.

  1. I hope the release is controlled and not sudden; 40,000 to 50,000 cusecs is peak summer flow.
