Chilas: Protesters block KKH to condemn suspension of Police official

Rawalpindi, March 10:Protesters in the headquarters city of Diamer District took to the streets against the suspension of Superintendent of Police and blocked the Karakuram Highway for several hours. Complete shutter down strike was also observed in the city.

According to details thousand of angry people took out a rally and staged a sit-in on KKH and kept the highway close for about six hours. Addressing the protesters Abdul Wakil Shah, Faizullah, and Maulana Abdul Majeed blamed that the Federal Interior Minister had suspended the SP Diamar, Faisal Sultan, on the pressure of a particular group and the decision was unjust.

They said that “enough is enough we will not allow any one to target an honest officer only to please a group”. “Government should review its decision and the police officer should be restored,” they demanded.

The blockade caused difficulties for the passengers as tens of buses and vans were stuck for several hours due to the blockade of Karakuram Highway. The traffic jam made it almost impossible for the people reach their destinations in time. Long queues of vehicles were seen on the high way.

After keeping the highway blocked for six hours the protesters dispersed peacefully.

Meanwhile, member GB Council Syed Afzal, Adviser to prime Minister Atta ullah Shahab and leader of Jamat Isalmi Nizam ud Din have also condemned the suspension of SP Diamar and said that the passengers were killed in Kohistan therefore taking action against a police official in Diamar cannot be called right.
