CRBC to construct Hussain-Gulmit link road

Hussaini, April 3: The Chinese Roads and Bridges Corporation (CRBC) has started work on reconstruction of a link road between Hussaini and Gulmit. The Karakuram Highway between these two villages had been inundated due to water surge caused by damming of the Hunza River near Attabad.
Earlier this year the district administration of Hunza – Nagar had appealed to the local people to construct the road on self-help basis. Contract for construction of the road had also been awarded to a local contractor. Nothing is known of that contractor and his work. Local people have demanded of the Speaker GBLA to take notice of the inability of the contractor to complete the link-road project.
Meanwhile, people have appreciated CRBC for taking the step to reconnect the two villages. Once completed, the road will serve thousands of people who are otherwise forced to travel for hours in boats at higher charges.
