We should respect our independence: Wazir Baig

Gilgit, August 14: Independence day of Pakistan was celebrated at official level in all seven districts of the Gilgit – Baltistan region. The day started with 21-gun salutes, performed at the City Park.
Later, the GBLA speaker, Wazir Baig, laid floral wreaths on graves of GB’s freedom war in the historical Chinar Bagh. He was accompanied by deputy speaker Jamil Ahmed, minister Naseer Ahmed, Dr. Ali Madad Sher, Sadia Danish, other GBLA members and the region’s Chief Secretary.
Addressing a gathering later, Wazir Baig said that independence has been won through hardships and sacrifices. He urged the younger generation to respect independence and take the region’s development as their own responsibility. He expressed dissatisfaction over the law and order situation in GB. He reiterated that maintenance of law and order is the government’s duty and all steps should be taken to ensure safety of the citizen’s life and honor . He also urged the people to work for peace and calm in the region.
A flag-hoisting ceremony was held at the Headquarters of FCNA. Maj. General Ikramulhaq, Commander FCNA, performed the flag hoisting ceremony, flanked by senior Army officials.
Skardu: GB Chief Minister, Syed Mehdi Shah, celebrated the independence day at Skardu, his native town. He laid floral wreaths at the Yadgar-e-Shuhada. He also addressed public gatherings and urged the people to make the best use of independence.
The independence day was also celebrated in Astore, Ghanche, Ghizer and Hunza – Nagar.
Workers of different political parties, including PMLN, ,PPP, ISO and MQM, took out rallies to celebrate the day.
