Provincial Ministers to celebrate February 5th as Gilgit-Baltistan Day


ISLAMABAD: A group of PMLN minister and parliamentary secretaries have announced that they will celebrate February 5th as the “Gilgit-Baltistan Rights Day”.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Minister for Works Dr. Iqbal, Minister for Culture Fida Khan, Education Minister Ibrahim Sanai, Minister for Women Development Sobia Muqaddam and Parliamentary Secretary Major (r) Amin said that the people f Gilgit-Baltistan are being denied their basic rights in the name of Kashmir cause for 70 years. They said that instead of celebrating the Kashmir Solidarity Day, they will ‘go the public’ and observe Gilgit-Baltistan Rights Day, from now on.

The Ministers said that they condemn India’s cruel oppressions of Kashmiris. However, they said that Gilgit-Baltistan is their priority.

The press conference was reportedly held against the wishes of Chief Minister Hafeez ur Rehman, who is also the PMLN President for Gilgit-Baltistan. However, during the press conference the PMLN leaders emphasized that they are not forming a ‘forward bloc’ in the party.

The ministers said that their first and last priority is Pakistan, and they are not considering any other option. They said that the Sartaj Aziz Committee’s recommendations are suitable for provision of fundamental rights to the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.
