Zakaria not allowed to take charge as IG, GB Chief Court approves case for hearing

Gilgit, August 15: The Gilgit – Baltistan Chief Court has approved the application of DIG Wazir Muhammad Ali for hearing. The newly notified Inspector General of Police, Usman Zakaria, has been stopped from taking charge.
According to details the federal government had appointed Capt(r) Usman Zakaria as IG Police for Gilgit – Baltistan. The decision was opposed by senior police officials hailing from Gilgit – Baltistan. DIG Wazir Muhammad Ali, the most senior police officer in GB, had challenged appointment of Usman Zakaria in the Court. His stand has also been supported by GB Chief Minister and former IG Hussain Asghar, who has said that the police force will be demoralized if the senior officials are ignored.
The position of IG had fallen vacant after the suspension of Hussain Asghar.
