Defense Day celebrated across Gilgit – Baltistan with zeal and fervor

Gahkuch, September 6: Martyrs were remembered across the Gilgit – Baltistan region on the defense day of Pakistan.

Commandant of the NLI Center visited the mausoleum of Havaldar Lalak Jan Shaheed, Nishan-e-Haider and laid floral wreaths on his grave. Prayers were also offered for the soldiers who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty during the last 65 years.

In Gilgit, members of the Gligit – Baltistan Legislative Assembly passed a resolution to acknowledge and honor the soldiers who have sacrificed their lives for the country. The legislators vowed to sacrifice more, if needed, for protection of the country’s sovereignty and liberty.

The legislators also visited the monument of heroes of the war of indpendence and laid floral wreaths on their graves.

Events were held in all district headquarters. People visited graves of the martyrs and offered prayers for the fallen soldiers.

Thousands of the sons of Gilgit – Baltistan have laid their lives for the country. In Ghizer District, especially, hundreds of martyrs are buried, mostly from the Kargil war in which the then Northern Light Infantry (now NLI Regiment) played a very prominent role.
