Diamer: Gunmen kill two police officials in Tangir valley, three injured

Gilgit, March 29: Two police officials, including a Deputy Superintendent (DSP) were killed and three cops were injured in an ambush in the Tangir valley of Diamer District. The injured cops are reported to be in stable condition.

The assassinated police officials were identified as DSP Attaullah and constable Haleem.

 According to details, a police van carrying the cops came under attack in the remote part of Diamer valley, while they were chasing some absconders in middle of the night. The DSP and the constable lost their lives while the injured cops were shifted to Chilas hospital for medical treatment. Later, the assassinated police officers were laid to rest in their native villages.

According to reports the police had established several checkpoints in the valley to check the movement of outlawed criminals who have taken refuge in remote areas of Tangir and Darel valley. Family members of the DSP have told the regional media that the late office was receiving threats and he was being pressurized by the criminal elements to finish the checkpoints.

DIG Ali Sher, who has served for a very long time in the Diamer district, informed the media that the police has not only identified the people behind the attack but also arrested four accused. He has said that strict action will be taken against the culprits.

The murder of the cops has been condemned by political and social leaders, including Governor Syed Pir Karam Ali Shah, CM Mehdi Shah and Speaker Wazir Baig.
