Newly appointed Lady Medical Officer asked to serve at DHQ Gilgit, draw salary from Civil Hospital Karimabad

PT Report

Aliabad, May 11: Dr. Sonia Batool, currently serving as Medical Officer at District Headquarters Hospital Gilgit, has been appointed as Lady Medical Officer at the same hospital on contract basis. She has been directed to draw salary and perks from the vacant position of Lady Medical Officer (BPS 17), available at Civil Hospital Karimabad, Hunza-Nagar district.

According to a notification, No. Sec-H-1 (20)/2012-III, issued on 8th May by a Section Officer, the decision was taken by Secretary Health and Public Welfare Department, after a “Walk-in-Interview”.

The decision has come as a surprise to the political and social leaders of Hunza-Nagar who have been waiting for the appointment of lady medical office in the region.

“If they need to a Lady Medical Officer at DHQ Gilgit they should create a position for her instead of exploiting the right of the people of Hunza – Nagar”, Jamal Shah, a resident of Hunza told this scribe.

Ideally a government servant should serve at the place where she of he gets his or her salary from but this strange decision has baffled many people. Some have called it an unjust decision, “equal to depriving Hunza-Nagar of its due right”.

The local people in Karimabad have demanded appointment of a Lady Medical Officer on urgent basis. They have requested Speaker Wazir Baig and Chief Secretary Sajat Hottiana to take notice of the malpractice and take action against those involved.
