Mian Nawaz Sharif sworn in as the 18th Prime Minister of Pakistan

Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari today administered the oath of office to Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, after the later was elected as the leader of the house by the National Assembly of Pakistan.

Mian Nawaz Sharif obtained 244 votes, while PPP’s Makhdoom Amin Faheem and PTI”s Makhdoom Javed Hashmi were able to bag 42 and 31 votes, respectively.

In his first address at the national assembly Mian Nawaz Sharif promised that he will cooperate with the provincial governments and that the foundations of a “new Pakistan” have been laid by allowing PTI to form its government in Khyber-Pakhunkhawa. He also said that the appointment of non-PMLN Governor and Chief Minister in Balochistan is also a sign that the new Pakistan has moved beyond old rivalries and politics of power. “We have started government of principles and values”, he said.

The session in National Assembly was also addressed by Makhdoom Amin Faheem and Makhdoom Javed Hashmi, who congratulated Nawaz Sharif for becoming the new prime minister.

He also said that Gawadar Port will be connected to China, through Khunjerab National Park, by construction of a railway track.

The oath-taking ceremony in the Aiwan-e-Saddar was attended by former PMs, current and former chief ministers of the provinces and heads of the Pakistan Army, Air Force and Pakistan Navy, among others.

  1. Wish you good governance and a true democracy in the country for the poors and middle men, we hope you will never use the democracy as a slogan like the previce government, GBIANs also expect the basic rights of the people and their role in the National assably.

  2. All the GBIANS convey their best wishes and felicitation to Nawaz sharif for becoming Prime minister of Pakistan. He has earned a good name in past due to his selfless services for the GB people whether that is Giyari sector or Atta Abad lake disaster, Allocation of professional seats for gbians or providing lap top to Gb students. All this shows your great devotion with the people of this remotest and mountainous areas. It is also hoped that your Govt. would further play the role to grant the constitutional rights to Gbians and ensure corruption free Govt. in Gilgit Baltistan.
