Islamabad: Chief Minister Syed Mehdi Shah of Gilgit-Baltistan has stepped into the media business by launching his own Urdu language newspaper named “Tarjuman”, or representative. The daily newspaper was launched on 1st November, two days back.
First issue of the newspaper had half page felicitation messages covering the independence day as well as the launching of the newspaper. Some critics, among them senior journalists, have expressed concern over the issuance of PID advertisements to this particular newspaper, even before it has obtained ABC certification.
It is pertinent to note that the print media in Gilgit-Baltistan is a huge business, mostly relying on funds provided through the Press Information Department (PID).
