“Honour Killings”: Four people, including two women, shot dead in Darel Valley, Diamer

Gilgit, December 29: Four people, including two women have reportedly been shot dead in upper reaches of Darel Valley, located in the Diamer District of Gilgit-Baltistan. The murders have been allegedly been committed on the suspicion of “illicit relationships” between the deceased. Two more people were reportedly injured during this heinous act of murder.
The Diamer Police has reportedly cordoned off the Darely Valley and search for the alleged murderers is underway. The heinous crime took place at around 5 O’clock Sunday evening.
According to details, the two women were shot dead inside their house while the two men were killed while they were traveling on a motorcycle.
It is pertinent to note that Darel is a remote valley located in the Diamer District of Gilgit-Baltistan, bordering with Kohistan district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhawa province.
Darel Valley has strong tribal customs which are still practiced. Family feuds and killings in the name of family honour are common in the region.
The government of Gilgit-Baltistan has failed completely to develop the Darel valley by providing education and economic opportunities.
