Islamabad, February 12: Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan, Chaudhry Muhammad Barjees Tahir on Monday directed Chief Secretary Gilgit-Baltistan to take precautionary measures in advance to avert imminent calamity expected in wake of crack developed in mountain in Hunza-Nagar near Miachar village close to Raka Poshi.

A wide range of Karakoram Highway is expected to be submerged if such a situation develops as 600 to 700 houses and thousands of people will be at risk in this case. A delegation of PML-N (GB) called on the Minister and presented their demands which included creation of new seats in Legislative Assembly and establishment of district headquarters of district Hunza-Nagar besides Miachar Lake.

Talking to the delegation, the Minister said their government was working to improve the lot of people and developing the indigenous resources of the province for the sake of sustainable development. On the demand of establishing district headquarters for Hunza-Nagar, he said their government does not like to interfere in matters of provincial governments as they like to work within provisions of constitution to provide maximum benefit to the people. Promotion of best practices and strengthening of institutions was the prime objective of PML-N’s government, he added. He told the delegation about the steps taken to develop tourism industry and shared his vision regarding development of means of communication for people of Gilgit-Baltistan.
