Chilas, February 16: A man died last night in a huge fire that erupted in the “Malangi Sabzi Mandi”, vegetable market. Vegetable and other valuable merchandise worth millions of rupees was also gutted in the incident. The fire erupted late in the night and was brought under control after two hours of struggle by the local people and officials of the Fire Brigade. The deceased man was identified as Aseel Zada, a laborer hailing from the Swat region of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. His dead body was dispatched to his native village after medico-legal formalities.

The fire, reportedly, erupted in a wooden cabin late in the night and spread through the entire market.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Rehman Shah and other officials of the administration were present at the site late in the night and oversaw the fire fighting process.

Many people in Chilas have demanded of the government to further build the capacity of the fire brigade. They expressed apprehension that this was the fourth fire incident in Chilas and neglecting the fire brigade further might lead to a bigger disaster in the future.
