Gilgit, May 12: Police in the garrison area of Gilgit city resorted to aerial firing and baton charged students who had blocked the Shahrah-e-Quaid Azam while protesting against the KIU administration.

According to details, the students of higher secondary level had resorted to protest after hearing that a paper had allegedly been leaked before the exams started. They blocked the main Shahrah in Jutial area’s Public Chowk region and chanted slogans against the administration of the Karakuram International University’s Examination Board.

In reaction, the police fired bullets in the air and baton charged the students to disperse them from the road.

Human Rights activists and student groups have condemned the police officials’ use of force against unarmed students.
