“Search operation in Diamer to continue till elimination of terrorists”
Gilgit, July 9: Launching a search operation in Diamer had become inevitable because the terrorists were planning to attack Chinese workers in the Gilgit-Baltistan region. The operation will continue till all the terrorists are eliminated. The local people of Diamer are supporting the search operation.
These views were shared by GB Information Minister and Home Secretary at a press conference held here in Gilgit.
The Home secretary, Attaur Rehman, said that the terrorists are operating in small groups and that there is no evidence to establish if they are members of a particular group. He also emphasized that the operation is not against a particular area but a group of terrorists who are destabilizing the region. He also said that bombs were not dropped during the operation.
The Information Minister said that security in the mountain areas of Ghizar district adjacent to Diamer has been beefed up. She said that the people of Diamer are fed up of the activities of the militants and they want peace to return to their region.
Some locals have, however, said that the “forest” where the operation is being carried out is not thick enough to hide groups of terrorists. They have demanded more transparency with regards to the search operation.
