NSF held a candle light vigil to remember victims of Hunza 8/11 incident
Gilgit, August 12: (PR) National Students Federation Gilgit-Baltistan arranged a candle light vigil at Ghari Bagh, Gilgit in memory of Sher Ullah Baig and Sher Afzal the two martyrs (father & son), who were shot on August, 11th 2011 in Ali Abad Hunza by the police in protocol of the Chief Minister Gilgit Baltistan Syed Mehdi Shah.
Comrade Ehsan Advocate, Chairman Awami Action Committee Gilgit-Baltistan and member of international socialist, Mr. Israr Hussain Israr Human Rights Commission Gilgit-Baltistan, Mr. Safdar Ali Safdar from BNF, activists of PYF Gilgit-Baltistan and NSFGB, and many other progressive and nationalist students, youth and dozens of other people joined the vigil at Ghari Baagh, Gilgit. At the same time, central vice president of Awami Workers Party, Comrade Baba Jan, activists from international socialist and youth from Hunza also lit candles in Ali Abad, where the incident occurred 3 years back.
The people in both vigils were holding play cards and banners yelling at the corrupt and puppet government of Gilgit-Baltistan’s silence on the brutal killing of Sher Ullah Baig and Sher Afzal on Hunza 8/11. The died father and son were one of the IDPs of the massacre created by Atta Abad Lake. Speakers said that it is on record that government officials accepted their fault regarding this case and on the other hand they arrested more than 100 progressive activists and youth from Hunza, few of them are still in GB’s cenral Jail and facing false cases in the anti-terrorist court of Gilgit-Baltistan. They demanded that the false cases must be withdrawn immediately and the victims of Hunza 8/11 must be compensated for their loss. Comrade Baba Jan and Comrade Ehsan Advocate said that the puppet government is showing its real face and we must understand that these puppets are not sincere with people of Gilgit-Baltistan. They are on pay role of Islamabad and their duty is to please their masters. President of NSF, Gilgit Baltistan Sindh zone Comrade Ehtisham urged the GB government to withdraw cases against all the activists arrested on false allegation after Hunza 8/11. “Despite promises of ending the false cases the CM is not able to function his so claimed powers properly”, he added.
At last the crowd decided to struggle collectively with common people for ensuring the basic rights of the oppressed people of Gilgit-Baltistan. It was also promised that struggle will continue until justice is delivered to every oppressed.
