Panic grips Gilgit as 3kg heavy bomb is found and defused near Masjid

Gilgit, September 20: Three kilogram heavy bomb was found and defused near a Masjid in the Jutial area of Gilgit city last night. The news of the discovery of the bomb spread like a wild-fire across the region, creating a sense of fear and insecurity, bringing back memories of past violence.
The bomb had been planted, left, near Masjid-e-Ali, which is located in the middle of a densely populated area in the Jutial locality of Gilgit, close to the Cant area. Some locals saw three suspicious people entering the Masjid and leaving in haste. The locals immediately called the police and informed them of the incident.
The bomb was defused in the presence of security and administration officials by the Bomb Disposal Squad, who have recently been trained and equipped to deal with such situations.
Shia Ulema Council condemned the incident, calling it an attempt to create fear and destabilize the region once again. They have demanded strong action against the culprits.
A protest demonstration was also held in Gilgit city to condemn the incident. The protesters also demanded protection for places of worship. They blocked the Shahrah Qauid-e-Azam for almost one hour and later dispersed after assurances by officials.
