Gilgit, October 2: Explosion near a passenger van moving towards Haramosh Valley has led to the death of at least three people, while nine people, including four women, have reportedly been injured. The vehicle exploded and caught fire near Alam Bridge, located almost 60km South of Gilgit city, close to Jaglote town.
The injured and dead were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, where a medical emergency has been imposed to provide optimum care and facilities to the victims and survivors.
An eye-witness named Mir Masoom Shah, who was at the DHQ hospital Gilgit, told Pamir Times correspondent that a bomb had been planted on the road-side near a culvert. The eye-witness also said that there were at least 25 people in the van when it was hit by the ‘road-side’ bomb. This information could not be verified from official sources.
Police sources have told Pamir Times that the nature of the blast is being investigated from all angles. There are reports that a 3 feet deep crater has been created at the blast site.
Some of the deceased and injured have been identified as Aqeel Shah s/o Sultan Shah, Mushtaq Hussain s/o Ali Madad and Syed Sabir s/o Baba Jan. The injured have been identified as Huda, Tahayya, Isha, Madiha, Zainab, Shama and Imrana.
The National Counter Terrorism Authority, through letter number 876 had informed the Home Dept of Gilgit-Baltistan regarding the terror threat yesterday. Reports to this effect had also been published in regional newspaper.
