Gilgit-Baltistan cabinet meets for the last time, services of hundreds of employees to be regularized

Gilgit, December 4: The Gilgit-Baltistan cabinet met for the final time today here in the regional capital, with only five days of the PPP-led coalition government remaining. The cabinet members decided that all vacant posts in the government departments will be advertised on urgent basis.

Chaired by the region’s Chief Minister, Syed Mehdi Shah, the cabinet took a number of decisions pertaining to regularization of services of government employees and providing opportunity for around 200 employees to prove their capacity.

Appointment of DIG and Commissioner in Diamer and Skardu Division was also discussed and approved.

It was decided that 116 teachers working since 2007 will be given ‘another opportunity’ to prove their competency. Another group of 46 teachers will also get the same opportunity.

Policy of appointing sons/daughters of GB govt employees who lose their lives during the period of employment will be enforced, the cabinet decided.

It was also decided that summary for regularization of 7,000 “Work Charge” employees of the Works department will be sent to the federal government. A summary will also be forwarded to the federal government for regularization of 70 employees of Food department and 50 employees of the Power department.

Police employees hired as part of the “Shuhada Package” will be regularized, as decided by the cabinet.

Approval was also given for a drinking water project for Bonji town. 8 million rupees will be spent on purchase of horses for the the Ministry of Culture and Sports. The horses will be used for playing polo.

The meeting was attended by all ministers, advisors, along with the region’s chief secretary and secretaries of all other ministries and departments.
