Gilgit, March 20: The caretaker Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltisan has announced that polling in the region will be held on the 8th of June, 79 days from now.
The announcement has been made amid confusion caused by statements from various ministers of the caretaker cabinet, and members of the ruling PMLN party, who have said that holding elections in June might not be possible.
The caretaker CM, therefore, has barred the ministers from giving statements on the date of the elections. He has said that 8th of June has been fixed as polling day and now it is the responsibility of the GB Election Commission to announce an election schedule and conduct the elections in a fair and transparent manner.
It is pertinent to note that three months have already passed since the departure of the previous government.
