PRCS Gilgit-Baltistan celebrates World First Aid Day

Gilgit: (PR) Pakistan Red Crescent Gilgit-Baltistan branch on Monday marked the World First Aid Day, 2015 to raise awareness about the role of first aid in preventing injuries and saving lives in everyday and crisis situations.

A dissemination seminar was organized in this connection by the PRC in Government Education College Jutail under the global theme “First aid and ageing population” which was attended by a large number of students, teachers, volunteers and staff of the PRC GB branch.

Speaking on the occasion, PRC GB Secretary Noor-ul-Ain said that World First Aid Day aims at raising awareness of how first aid can prevent injuries and save lives in everyday and crisis situations, as well as at promoting the accessibility of the first aid.

She said that the Pakistan Red Crescent is a pioneering organization in the country which provides certified first aid training for different stakeholders with an aim to prepare one first aider at every home.

The Provincial Secretary said that through the first aid program, the PRC has trained thousand volunteers, students and teachers, police constables and other groups across GB for make able them to deal with emergencies.

“Last year’s theme of World First Aid Day highlighted the need for First aid heroes in daily emergencies and disasters because first aid saves lives, everyone, and everywhere can be a hero” said PRC Provincial Health Officer Dr. Muhmmad Younas.

PRC GB First Aid Coordinator Aziz Ali said that the idea of first aid and ageing population is to build a positive image of ageing and recognize older people as an important resource for the society.

The principals of male and female wings of Government Education College Jutial Ali Haider and Shegufta Zahid have also addressed to the seminar and urged the government to include a chapter on first aid in educational curriculum.

Earlier, a newly adapted first aid policy of the PRC was also rolled out which was containing different modules of first aid and policy guidelines.
